    FAQs

In a Real Smart Home, all your smart devices are connected through a single app. This allows them to work together and interact seamlessly. These devices are built to automate tasks, saving you time and effort.

Just saying “Alexa, turn on the light” isn’t enough for a Real Smart Home. For instance, lights can turn on based on motion sensors, the time of day, the amount of sunlight, and other factors. That’s what makes it truly smart.

You control your Real Smart Home through a personalised floor plan of your house. This makes it easy for everyone in the family to recognise and use right away—no training required. At a glance, the floor plan shows you everything you need.

Unlike other systems that require multiple pages, it displays the status of lights, heating, doors, windows, cameras, water leaks, fire alarms, and more—all in one view.

With smart home installations, you can control everything. Whether it’s from your smartphone, tablet, computer, or even a smart TV. The floor plan is available through a mobile app on Android and iOS.

You can also access it via the web. This gives you full control of your home with just a tap.

Security is a top priority for homeowners, especially in a smart home installation.

In a “Real Smart Home,” all devices work together to give you maximum control. You’ll get real-time alerts to act quickly on threats like intrusion, water leaks, or fire.

With AI-powered cameras for object recognition, you can improve alert accuracy and reduce false positives. Want to know when a car pulls into your driveway while you’re away? Add number plate recognition. This helps reduce notifications by ignoring events like cars belonging to friends or family.

And of course, we understand the importance of internet security. We take data protection seriously and use strong encryption and secure network protocols to keep your smart home safe.

It’s actually the opposite. In a “Real Smart Home,” the devices only work when needed, so you don’t waste energy when you don’t.

On average, our customers save between 30% and 50% on their monthly energy bills after turning their homes into smart homes.
For those with heat pumps or fully electric homes, savings can go up to £1000 a year thanks to better control over energy use.

A “Real Smart Home” doesn’t need an internet connection to work. All your devices connect to a server in your home, which acts as the “brain” of your smart system.

This way, your automations and rules keep running even if the internet goes down. The only things that won’t work during an outage are things that need the internet, like remote access or notifications. Everything else, like controlling your devices through the app, will still work just fine.

There’s no single price for a smart home, but the cost generally falls into three main categories. It’s an investment in convenience, energy savings, and security.

    • Entry-Level (£500 – £1,500): This is great for getting started. It typically covers a few smart devices like a video doorbell, some smart lights, and a smart speaker. Many of these can be set up yourself.
    • Mid-Range (£1,500 – £5,000): This is where you get a more connected system, often including zoned heating, full lighting control, and multi-room audio. Professional installation is recommended at this level to make sure it all runs smoothly.
    • Premium (£5,000 – £20,000+): This is for a fully custom, high-end experience tailored to your lifestyle. Think integrated blinds, multi-room AV systems, and advanced, scene-based automation.

The final cost will always depend on your home’s size, existing wiring, and the overall complexity of the system you want. For an accurate quote tailored to you, we recommend booking a free, no-pressure consultation.

The number of rules and automations in a “Real Smart Home” is only limited by your imagination. These are some of the automations we have created for our customers:

    • With a single touch of a button before leaving the house, you can turn off all the lights, TVs, and other appliances, while also activating the alarm, locking the door, and running a quick checklist. If anything’s wrong, it sends a sound alert and a message to your phone (like if a door or window is still open, or if a pet is in the garden).
    • The bathroom extractor fans don’t have to be turned on every time you switch the light on. They can activate automatically when the humidity gets too high and turn off once things are back to normal. Plus, you can add a window sensor to turn off the fan if a bathroom window is open.
    • And Cinema Mode? One press of your remote, and it turns off the lights, closes the blinds, adjusts the TV or soundbar volume, and picks your channel.

And these are just some examples. In terms of automation in a “Real Smart Home”, the sky is the limit!

You can have a look at other examples in our Automation Ideas section.

You might be right, but let me ask you some questions about your house:

    • Do you need to use multiple apps to control things like cameras, lights, heating, appliances, and blinds? And do you have to install all these apps on your phone and your family’s phones and tablets?
    • Do you need to talk to Alexa or Google when you want some action, like switching lights, to happen?
    • Do you have limitations in the types of automations you can create because devices from different brands don’t “talk” to each other?
    • Do internet outages disrupt some or most of your smart home features?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, your house might not be as “smart” as it could be, and unfortunately, it does not qualify as a Real Smart Home.

A Real Smart Home connects all your devices, so you can control everything easily and set up automations, no matter the brand or if the internet is down. It just simplifies your life, not complicates it.

Our platform connects over 2,500 devices and works with thousands of others. We can add smart features to your existing lights, climate control, entertainment, and security—no need to replace anything.

We mix new tech with what you already have to make everything work together. Control music, lights, appliances, blinds, and your electric vehicle charger from one easy system. We help create the smart home you want.

At The Real Smart Home, customer satisfaction is our top priority. We design our systems for remote troubleshooting, eliminating delays caused by on-site service calls.

Furthermore, all our packages include a proactive monitoring system that constantly checks your home’s functionality.

In most cases, if an issue arises, it’s often an internet outage. In these situations, we’ll notify you, saving you the time and hassle of discovering the problem yourself. Our approach makes sure you get alerts quickly and avoids delays, so you can focus on what matters.

As we always say, a “Real Smart Home” makes life easier, not harder.

They’re well-known in the industry, however, The Real Smart Home and our platform SH-PRO take a completely new approach to smart home projects. Here’s what makes us different:

    1. Unmatched Ease of Use: Forget fiddling with menus! Our app uses a personalised 3D floor plan of your house, so anyone in the family can control everything with a quick look (e.g., which lights are on, what rooms have the heating on, what doors or windows are open, etc.). It’s as easy as a cup of tea – no training needed!
    2. Universal Device Compatibility: Unlike other systems, our platform SH-PRO is compatible with over 95% of smart devices available on the market (and we are working every day to increase that number). We support over 3,000 brands and thousands of devices, so your current devices will work seamlessly. We can also recommend the best devices to you according to our testing, depending on their performance, reliability, and the features you need.
    3. Smart CCTV: Our unique Smart CCTV system is capable of intelligent object recognition, going beyond simple motion detection to accurately distinguish between people, vehicles, animals, and other objects. This advanced capability significantly reduces false alarms triggered by pets or moving trees, ensuring you only receive alerts that truly matter. Furthermore, the identified objects can be used to trigger custom automations – for example, turning on outdoor lights when a person approaches at night, or temporarily disabling garden sprinklers when a vehicle enters the driveway.
    4. Limitless Automations: With all your devices in one app, the possibilities for automations are endless. Imagine a home that automatically adjusts to your preferences, from setting the perfect mood lighting to adjusting the heating when you walk in. We’ll help you create automations that are as unique as your lifestyle.
    5. Affordable Smart Home Solutions: Starting from just £1,000! Get a completely custom smart home that fits your budget and lifestyle with our bespoke packages – you only pay for what you use. Unlike others, we can even integrate devices you already own, and you can say goodbye to hefty upfront costs!
    6. Ultimate Personalisation: Our 3D floor plans are completely customisable. You decide everything, from furniture placement and colour to the information displayed and how devices respond to your touch (tap, double tap, hold, etc.). The possibilities are endless!
    7. Unparalleled Local Control: For ultimate peace of mind, our system prioritises local control. That means your app, floor plan, and automations all run on a small server inside your house. This keeps your data secure, and the system running even during internet outages.

Smart CCTV is way better than older CCTV systems, where you had to check the footage to see what happened after it’s too late to be useful. Wouldn’t it be better if the CCTV could notify you of certain events, depending on the conditions?

Just as an example, a notification of someone in your garden is not useful if you are home, as this “someone” will most likely be you, but the same event (person detected in the garden), when you and your family are away is a completely different story, and you most likely want to be notified about that, don´t you think?

And that´s only one of the aspects where Smart CCTV comes in handy, these are other features of Smart CCTV:

    • Smart Alerts: Get notified when people, pets, or vehicles are detected, only while you’re away.
    • Number plate recognition: The system can read and store number plates and react accordingly. No more false alarms from the cat sitter!
    • Extended Recordings: Forget trawling through endless footage. Smart CCTV captures only important events for months, not weeks! And the best of this is that you don´t need to choose between one and the other, as the Smart CCTV can be configured to store also 24×7 recordings for a certain period (for instance, it can record two weeks of 24×7 recordings as well as three months of events).
    • Easy Event Search: Find what you need fast. The system shows relevant pictures, not hours of video!
    • Hear What Matters: Get alerts for sounds like fire alarms or barking dogs. Keep an ear on your home, even from afar!

We are glad to hear that! Check out our FAQ for electricians, where we answer this and other common questions received from electricians.

This is a common question, and the best path depends on what you truly want from your smart home.

You should stick with DIY if you’re just starting out, enjoy tinkering with technology, and are happy with a collection of separate gadgets that may not work together perfectly. It’s great for trying out a few smart bulbs or a video doorbell as a bit of fun.

You should call a professional when you want a single, intelligent system where everything (lights, heating, security) works together flawlessly. It’s the right choice if you need absolute reliability, want a clean and seamless look with no messy wires, and see it as a long-term upgrade for your home. A pro installation gives you a truly sorted system, not just a box of gadgets.
